The simple things

"an active toy promotes passive play and a passive toy promotes active play"
This quote comes from an interesting article I read last week in a brochure sent out by Porse (in home Childcare and Educator Training).
The article fitted well with my philosophy that simple toys are best for children. With simple toys children are encouraged to be active, creative and imaginative. Children can make a game out of any everyday household items and natural objects. They don't need noises or buttons, batteries or screens.
Playdough-nothing could be more passive than a lump of dough!
We made some this week and Sofia has already had hours of pleasure. And not just Sofia either, but also her little sister, older cousins, a couple of aunties, her Dad...and me. Let's be honest-who of us can resist a bit of a play when we see some dough in front of us?!

  1. Great idea! I'll have to wait until Isla is old enough not to eat it ;)

that quote is absolutely correct - Elijah just spotted the playdough creations above and thought they were pretty cool! I love it when he plays out in the tree - its a small tree but to him its huge!
